Add a Link
Your link will appear in Chapter 1 of James Joyce’s Ulysses.
Claim a word and link it to a website, blog, YouTube channel, podcast, shop, manifesto, idea, memory, poem, or belief. Your word becomes a permanent, individual brushstroke in the project. $5 per character.
Your link is permanent!
How to Add a Link
You can do it easily via PayPal: select the number of characters and include your URL (1 character = $5).
→ ADD A LINK
We’ll match your order to the first available word (from the top of the chapter) that has the same number of characters you’ve purchased:
1 character → “a”
2 characters → “of”
3 characters → “she”
… and so on.
If all the words of that length are taken, we’ll place your link inside a longer word or a small cluster of shorter ones.
Want to choose a specific word? Just mention it in your order form next to your URL. If it’s available, it’s yours. If not, we’ll work with you to find the perfect alternative.
Location
Open Ulysses currently calls Substack home, but it’s a floating, indestructible canvas. Wherever it goes, every link remains, building together a permanent, collective portrait of the world online.
Rules:
1. The very first word of the chapter belongs to us. Every other word - or character - can belong to you.
2. Use common sense: no inappropriate, harmful, or illegal links. We reserve the right to decline any submission and will refund paid entries if we do. If a link is accepted but later points to unsuitable content, it may be removed without refund.
3. Links may lead to content in any language. Open Ulysses reflects the world as it is, not as a single audience understands it. If needed, modern online tools make translation easy.
4. Links can belong to you or to someone else: you can add, basically, anything you like.
5. All the links are permanent, unless they break the rules or become inactive.
6. Inactive (broken) links are available to next participants.
Pick a word. Add a link. Leave a mark.
